I had an amazing time exploring the shops and villas of Lake Como in Bellagio Italy! In this post I share how I got there and my itinerary for a great trip!
How I Got There & Getting Around
Getting to Lake Como from Milan was a quick train/metro ride into the town of Como. From Milan this was about a 1.5 hour metro ride on the Trenord Green R17 line to the Como S Giovanni station.
Pro Tip: Don't forget to keep some change to use the public train station restroom!
Once you arrive into Como you can take the C30 bus to Bellagio for a few Euros OR walk/bus/taxi down to the Lake Ferry station that will take you to Bellagio. I took the 15-minute walk down the huge train station stairs to the lake shore since I didn't have a lot of luggage.
The C30 Bus is the cheapest and most direct route to Bellagio but on my trip, there was a landslide so... no bus transportation! When we came down to the ferry station, we were met with a huge line of people waiting for lake ferry tickets.
Luckily, I research the Lake Ferry beforehand, so we skipped the line and bought our ferry tickets on their mobile App and had lunch across the street instead! Here's their site/app, it was very easy to use with it's translate website function.
In Bellagio, we were able to grab the Seasonal Road Train for 5 Euros (recently upped to 10)! this took us on a nice "tour & sightseeing " loop around the town and luckily stopped at our hotel as well. We walked and used this little train often on our trip, when it was operating so be sure to check their schedule.
Where I Stayed
This trip we stayed the beautiful local and +100-year-old family-owned Hotel Silvio! We got a water view room and enjoyed every second of it! We loved the hotels story and local history, our stay included breakfast and evening drinks on the patio.
The hotel had an amazing restaurant celebrating local ingredients, the food was so good we actually ate almost every meal here (breakfast was included in our stay). This season the restaurant is closed but I'm hoping it reopens next year!
What We Did and What We Ate
There are MANY luxury hotels and activities in Bellagio and on Lake Como. Common activities include hiking, villa tours, local vendor shopping and tours of the lake! You can find these activities in many pricing levels.
Travel Money Chat
Let's talk money! Here's what I spent on this part of my trip in Bellagio (this was part of a larger tour of Italy and France). As anywhere, if you take your time to find local restaurants and shops, they will often be better quality and price than the tourist focused ones.
We really splurged on the hotel and food on this trip. You can find hotel options for less than we paid at ~$250/night and other less expensive food options too!
