Lyd Explains: Seltzer Water

I am one of the many people obsessed with seltzer water! #noshame In this post I want to talk about the history of seltzer water, how it's made and why it's become so popular.

Carbonated water is known by many names over the world: soda water, sparkling water and seltzer or seltzer water.

Seltzer water was discovered in the mid 1700's but was not mass produced until 1781. Seltzer water is water with dissolved carbon dioxide gas slowly escaping as bubbles.

Seltzer is made by artificially dissolving carbon dioxide into the water using pressure or made naturally from geological processes.

Many say the increase in popularity of seltzer is because of a more health conscious public, concerned with sugar, artificial sweeteners and other unpopular ingredients found in soda (pop). I was never a soda-drinker growing up but I loved seltzer water. I still drink seltzer to force myself to drink enough water everyday.

I buy a selection of different brands of seltzer for different functions. I use the store brand for everyday drinking and get fancy with the plethora of flavored brands for parties and visitors.

I have seen a few gadgets to make your own seltzer water at home. I haven't been tempted to purchase one because I would have to go to the store to get the water to make it into seltzer water at home anyways. I love kitchen appliances but to me it's not wort the cost, work and counter space.

Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed this post about seltzer water! I am sure there are tons of different brands all over the world. Comment below with your favorite!

Travel: Pittsburgh,PA - Carnegie Library

Since I moved to Pittsburgh in 2015 it has been on my list to got to the Carnegie Library in Oakland! This year I made it a goal to get a Carnegie Library card and explore some of the free services they offer. I know we have great libraries in Pittsburgh but I had no idea what they offer. My friend and I took a tour of the main library in Oakland - is was a perfect way to learn about the libraries history, how to navigate it and the services and resources they have. My favorite part of the tour was learning about the history of the library, how and when it was built (1895) and how it has changed through the decades. It was also great to see all of the historic photos they have of the library and surrounding land. The photo below is of a one of the larger vaulted rooms in the library and it is said that the centers of the molding once held windows that were then covered during WW2 to not attract attention from above. The tour also took us to the room that was later added above
